Calgary Poetry Contest #2
Deadline to enter: Sunday, December 2, 2018.
Number of poems: 1 to 3.
Number of lines: Maximum 100 lines per poem.
Cost to enter: 1 poem, free. 2 poems, $5 CAD. 3 poems, $8 CAD.
Who can enter: Submissions are welcome from everyone on Earth.
Prizes: First Place: $50 CAD; Top Calgary Poet: $25 CAD.
Intended Publication date: Spring 2019.
Simultaneous submissions: Not allowed.
Wax Poetry and Art invites all poets to submit to The Calgary Poetry
Contest #2. This contest creates a cultural exchange between the
international community of poets, and poets residing in Calgary, Alberta,
Canada. Prizes are offered for First Place and Top Calgary Poet.
The poem(s) submitted must be wholly original to the person submitting
Simultaneous submissions are not allowed for this contest. Do not submit
the same poems anywhere else until the contest results are announced. At
that time, participants who did not win the contest may submit the work
The poem(s) submitted must be previously unpublished in print format or in
any publicly accessible online format such as an online magazine, personal
website, or blog. Work viewable on private forums, such as a private
Facebook post, is not considered as published.
Poets may submit up to three poems. One poem may be submitted for
free. Two poems may be submitted for a fee of $5 CAD. Three poems
may be submitted for a fee of $8 CAD. Payment can be made via PayPal,
using the buttons shown below, or by cheque. Residents of Canada may
also send payment via email money transfer.
Payment can also be made in USD and GBP using the PayPal buttons,
The maximum number of lines per poem is 100 lines.
Include a biographical note of 100 words or fewer. Include your website
and social media information, if applicable.
Ensure your submission is complete prior to submitting. Your submission

Entries must be received by midnight of Sunday, December 2, 2018.
All participants will be added to the Wax Poetry and Art email list. You can

Copyright remains with the original artist at all times.
Wax Poetry and Art obtains the right to the first publication of the work, as
well as the right to republish the work on our website and also on our
accounts on third party platforms such as email, Facebook, and other
social media, specifically for the purpose of promoting the work and the
artist to more people, and considering the continuously evolving nature of
the Internet. We also obtain the right to republish the work in our own
anthologies, either online or in print, without additional compensation
required. The original prize payment is considered as an advance on future
payments and royalties.
Although we strive to apply a light hand when it comes to editing, Wax
Poetry and Art reserves the right to make whatever edits are deemed
necessary at any time, with utmost respect to the artists, to ensure that
First Place:$50 CAD
Top Calgary Poet: $25 CAD
Contest participants will be notified of the results within three months of
the contest closing. A Calgary poet who wins First Place also wins for Top
The winning poems will be published online in Calgary Poetry Magazine, a
project of Wax Poetry and Art.
Print copies of the winning poems will be made available for sale online at
time of publication.
Payment will be sent within four weeks following publication, via PayPal,
email money transfer (for Canadian residents), or cheque sent via regular
post. Cheques will be made out in Canadian ($CAD) funds only.
Judging will be based on two criteria: Quality of writing and effectiveness
of the poem, as determined by the editor. Please edit carefully.
Writers submitting work to all Wax Poetry and Art projects assume all
liability if situations arise due to misrepresentations on the part of the writer,
especially regarding copyright violations.
