Poems About Calgary
Calgary Poetry Magazine invites current and former residents of Calgary,
Alberta to submit one or two original, unpublished poems that are inspired
by their experience of Calgary. Visitors to Calgary may also submit poems
inspired by their visit.
This special project is perpetual, and over time will become a much loved
and well known Calgary poetry resource.
Submissions are restricted to current and former residents of the city of
Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and also persons who have visited.
Submit up to 2 poems. There is no line limit. Poems must have titles.
Submit poem(s) along with a short biography and mailing address. Include
social media information in your biography, if applicable.
If you are a former resident, please state in your biography when you
resided in Calgary. If a visitor, please state when you visited.
Submissions must be sent by email. Do not include any part of your
submission in an email attachment. Copy and paste your entire submission
(poems, biography, and mailing address) into the body of a single email.
Use the subject header, "Poems About Calgary".
Email your submission to email@example.com.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed. Please inform me immediately if
your work is accepted elsewhere.
There is no initial compensation for being published in Calgary Poetry
Magazine. Payment is through royalties.
Copyright of the work remains with the artist always. The publisher gains
the right to first publication and the right to anthologize the work online and
in print, without additional permission or compensation required.
An Official Print Version will be available for sale on the web pages of
Calgary Poetry Magazine that contain the work.
Poems accepted into this special project will be first published online in
Calgary Poetry Magazine. At a later date, some of these poems will be
collected and published as a free online book in the Wax Poetry and Art
Bookstore & Free Library. An electronic version (.pdf) of the book will also
be made available for sale at that time. A print book will be published, at a
later date, and as soon as it is financially possible to do so. Not all poems
published for this project in Calgary Poetry Magazine will make it into the
The artist receives a 15% royalty on all print sales and 50% royalty on
electronic sales (such as of .pdfs).
If included in an anthology or collection, royalties will be shared equally
among all artists based on contribution. Royalty payments are made every
January to anyone whom $10 CAD or more is owed.
The publisher also gains the right to use parts or all of the work, as needed,
on third party platforms such as email, Facebook, and YouTube, specifically
for the purpose of promoting the work to more people, and considering the
evolving and experimental nature of the Internet.
The publisher has the right, with utmost respect to the artist and the work,
to make whatever edits are necessary, to ensure that publication occurs.

About the Editor
Kirk Ramdath is the publisher of Wax Poetry and Art, Calgary Poetry
Magazine, and other publications. Kirk is the author of Love in a Handful of
Dust. He has received three writing grants from Canada Council for the Arts,
and is working on a new manuscript.
