Poets of Canada Contest #1

-This is a free contest. You must live in Canada to submit.
-This contest closes on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at midnight. The winner
will be published on or before Monday, May 4, 2020.
-This contest is a
Wax Poetry and Art Champions Cup qualifying event.

Canada Poetry Magazine invites all poets living in Canada to submit to
Poets of Canada Contest #1.

Submission Guidelines
Please read these submission guidelines carefully. Adherence to the
submission guidelines is now part of the review process. Participants
will receive email acknowledgement that their submission has been
received. Incomplete or improperly formatted submissions will be
disqualified at the beginning of the review process. Therefore, you must
ensure that you follow these guidelines carefully.

To send a corrected or new submission, simply send an entirely new
submission, prior to the submission deadline. Your previous entry will
be discarded and your most recent submission will be used for the

You must agree with the terms on this page in order to submit poetry to
this project. Your submission will be taken as proof of your agreement
and as such, no additional contract will be required for publication to

Your email will be added to the
Wax Poetry and Art Email list. You will
receive only a few emails per year, and you can leave the list at any time
by replying to a message and asking to leave. To ensure you receive
messages, you may add "info@waxpoetryart.com" to your saved
email addresses.

You must include the following statement in your submission: "I agree
with the terms of the Poets of Canada Contest, and to be added to the
Wax Poetry and Art email list."

The Poets of Canada Contest #1 closes on Sunday, April 19, 2020.

This is a free contest and submissions are open to all persons residing in
Canada. Submissions in a language other than English must include an
English translation.

Use of indigenous languages in the poems is acceptable, as long as
English translations are provided.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed. However, please withdraw your
submission from this contest immediately, if your poem is to be published

Submit 1 original, unpublished, titled poem, along with a biography and
your mailing address (including street address, city, province / state,
country, and postal code). Include your social media information in your
biography, if applicable.

The maximum number of lines is 35.

Winning the Poets of Canada Contest #1
The winning poem will be published online in Canada Poetry Magazine
on or before Monday, May 4, 2020 . Please note, participants will
not be notified by email when the winner is published, except for the
winner who receives additional information. To find out who won, and to
read the winning poem, visit one of the following web pages on Monday,

Use your smart device to set a reminder to, "Check the winner of the
Poets of Canada Contest on May 4, 2020." The winner may be published
earlier, so feel free to check the websites mentioned above earlier than
May 4, 2020.

The winner grants publisher Kirk Ramdath the right to the first publication
of the poem, as well as the right to republish the poem in
Canada Poetry
Magazine & Wax Poetry and Art
anthologies, online and in print, without
additional permission required.

The winning poet also wins one entry into the
Wax Poetry and Art
Champions Cup
, also known as the Poetry Champions Cup. More details
about the
Poetry Champions Cup will be announced soon. The winner of
Poetry Champions Cup will receive cash and other prizes.

When published, an Official Print Version of the winning poem will be
made available for sale. The winner will receive a 20% royalty on all print
sales, as well as a 50% royalty on electronic sales, such as of .pdf
documents. If the winning poem is ever collected into an online or print
anthology, the same royalty rates apply, and royalties will be shared
equally among all contributors, based on contribution, and paid out
annually in January, to anyone who is owed $10 CAD or more. There is
no initial payment.

The winner also grants the publisher the right to publish parts or all of the
work on third party platforms such as Facebook and other social media,
specifically for the purpose of sharing the work with more people, and
considering the evolving and experimental nature of the Internet.

Submissions must include:
-Agreement statement: "I agree with the terms of the Poets of Canada
Contest, and to be added to the Wax Poetry and Art email list."
-Poem (titled, 35 lines maximum).
-Biography, maximum 100 words, including social media and www links,
if applicable.
-Your complete postal mailing address including street address, city,
province, country, and postal code.

The entire submission (agreement statement, poem, biography, and
mailing address) must be copied and pasted into the body of a single
email and sent to the email address shown below. Do not include any
part of your submission in an attachment.

Use, "The Poets of Canada Contest" as the subject header of
your email. Send your submission by midnight of Sunday, April 19,
by email to: info@waxpoetryart.com.

Kirk Ramdath is the publisher and editor of Wax Poetry and Art, Eleventh
Transmission, and other publications. He has been an artist and arts
activist since 2005, originally in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His first book
