The Christmas Poem Contest 2018
This year, on Christmas morning, poets around the world will open a letter
and read the winning poem of this contest -- The Christmas Poem. It could
be yours. Everyone who enters receives the print version of the winning
poem, to be opened on Christmas Day, 2018. The author of the winning
poem also receives a cheque for the cash prize, and possibly additional

Cost to enter: 1 poem, $10 USD; 2 poems, $20 USD, 3 poems, $USD.
Submissions are welcome from everywhere on Earth.

Intended Publication date: Christmas Day 2018 (print), later online.
Simultaneous submissions: Not allowed.
Wax Poetry and Art invites all poets to participate in The Christmas Poem
Contest. Submissions are accepted from everywhere on Earth.
Christmas is a ubiquitous cultural experience in many parts of the world.
Despite this shared experience, the way that Christmas is experienced is
deeply personal, reflecting a matrix of culture, family, love, loss, and time.
The winning poem will be the one that is the best choice to be sent to every
participant as a gift to be opened on Christmas morning.
The work submitted must be wholly original to the person submitting
Simultaneous submissions are not allowed for this contest. The same
poems may not be submitted elsewhere for the duration of the contest.
The poem(s) submitted must be previously unpublished in print format or in
any publicly accessible online format such as an online magazine, personal
website, or blog. Work viewable on private forums, such as a private
Facebook post, is not considered as published.
Up to 3 poems may be submitted.
1 poem may be submitted for $10 USD.
2 poems may be submitted for $20 USD.
3 poems may be submitted fof $30 USD.
-All participants receive a letter with the winning poem, to be opened on
-Persons who enter two poems can send one gift copy.
-Persons who enter three poems can send two gift copies.
-Provide the mailing addresses of the gift recipients when you submit your
poems, and the magazine will send gift copies on your behalf (postage
included). Or, you receive gift copies with your personal copy, which you
can mail out yourself (postage not included).
Payment can be made via PayPal, or by cheque. Instructions below.

The maximum number of lines is 100. All poems must be titled.
Include a biographical note of 100 words or fewer. Including website and
social media information, if applicable.
Ensure your submission is complete prior to submitting. Your
submission must contain:
-Biography (100 words, or fewer).
-Mailing address (including gift recipients, if applicable).
Entries must be received by midnight of Sunday, September 30, 2018.
Please remember that simultaneous submissions are not allowed for

addresses of gift recipients (if applicable) should be copied and pasted into
the body of a single email. Do not include any part of your submission in a
document or attachment.

Please ensure that cheques are posted in well in advance of the contest
deadline. If paying by cheque, please indicate this when you email the rest
of your submission.
Copyright remains with the original artist at all times.
Wax Poetry and Art obtains the right to the first publication of the work, in
print and online, and also on our accounts on third party platforms such as
email, Facebook, and other social media, specifically for the purpose of
promoting the work and the artist to more people, and considering the
continuously evolving nature of the Internet. We also obtain the right to
republish the work in our own anthologies, either online or in print, without
additional compensation required.
Artists receive a 15% royalty on submission fees, a 15% royalty on sales
of print versions, and a 50% royalty on sales of electronic versions (such
as of .pdfs). The initial cash prize of $100 CAD is considered an advance
on future royalties.
The editor reserves the right to make whatever edits are deemed
necessary at any time, with utmost respect to the artists, to ensure that

First Place: $100 USD + additional royalties (if accrued)
The writer of the winning poem receives a cheque for $100 USD, as well as
any additional royalties, if accrued.
The winning poem in The Christmas Poem Contest will be mailed out to all
participants in advance of Christmas Day, so that poets and readers around
the world will share the experience of reading The Christmas Poem on
Christmas Day. The poem will be published online on this website, sometime
after Christmas morning.
Please note: If you choose to open and read the poem prior to Christmas
Day, please do not share the results publicly until Christmas Day, so that
the surprise is preserved for other participants.
Judging will be based on two criteria: Quality of writing and effectiveness
of the poem, as determined by the editor. Please edit carefully.
Writers submitting work to Wax Poetry and Art assume all liability if
situations arise due to any misrepresentations on the part of the writer,
especially in regards to copyright violations.
Wax Poetry and Art reserves the right to cancel the contest and refund
submission fees if there are not enough paid submissions to cover the prize
