Ever Brighter Blues

by Daniel Ress

The merry weather of forgotten tomorrows
Will bustle about and blow down our houses
Nursery rhymes yet to come
And paint our walls in seafoam
To suggest a new diluvian innocence

Hoping the waters
Will wash our feet
Burning our fires
Ever brighter

The harmonious final cries of forgotten people
Will echo and tremor across the conscious lines
That bind us with all
And ring out
To final silence

Hoping the waters
Will wash our feet
Burning our fires
Ever brighter

If it’s not too late we can buy galoshes
If it’s not too late we can buy galoshes

It’s a cold wind blows these t-shirt Februaries
Will fire and water compete to ice us
Frost is gradual
But suffices
We won’t awaken

Dream of spring
Summer winter fall
Dream of spring
Summer winter fall
Just happy
Till we lose it all

Hoping the waters
Will wash our feet
Burning our fires
Ever brighter

If it’s not too late we can buy galoshes
If it’s not too late we can buy galoshes
