Angel in Scrubs: The Early Shift

I get up, another restless night,
And I’ll kiss you…while you sleep.
Ain’t particularly religious,
But I’ll pray my soul to keep…

Go downstairs for a coffee.
Kiss you again as you sleep.
Kiss the photo of the grand kids.
Then from the house I’ll creep

Driving into the darkness
this ain’t the retirement that we’d planned.
I am the angel in the Blue scrubs
and I may have held you hand.

Opening up my locker door
and the door will once more squeak.
Surely my protective clothing
Must arrive sometime this week.

Then onto my ward
and try to do my very best
but even in my downtime
I find it hard to rest

Driving into this darkness.
This is not the life we’d planned.
I am the angel in the green scrubs
and I need to find your hand

And to all those Politicians
especially those who voted down our pay.
Would you care to now change places,
Even for one single day?

Driving into this darkness
this ain’t the life that I’d planned.
I am the angel in the Red scrubs.
I’d like to thank you for your hands
I am the angel in the soiled scrubs
and  I thank you for your hands
