Laundry Day

My husband did the laundry
and afterward
he handed me our clothes to fold.
I folded most of them,
spent twenty minutes
arranging his drawers
before I paused
and I wondered if there was a reason
to fold clothes that no one would see.

But it seemed silly to stop
so I folded his shirts and ties
and I tucked those little socks
(the tiny ones that stores
give out
for hygiene reasons)
into my favorite heels

and then our dog
needed walking
so I pulled a mask over my face
and plastic gloves over my hands
and prayed that no one would violate
the six feet of space
by international quarantine.
