Wild Fire Winds
by Natasha Head
This heat is a cruel joke
Bodies blistering, melting, dripping
Pooling at our feet
All that remains.
We are liquid against the wind
Lungs, blackened,
Breathe, a fond memory
As we suffocate
The scent permeates
Invading our homes
The sun is hiding
Smoke signals
The odor is ancient
Wisdom burning
Flames, invisible
In a dry fog
Hundreds of miles
No measure
Our breeze brings with it
The touch of fear
The smoke steals our sun
A blood red bullet in the sky
Hectares burn
While we count our blessings.
