Michipicoten

by Andrea Tingey

Ships beach the shore,
Chewed like bubble gum, perhaps by giants
Ribs showing through like a sick dog
Siegestor, “reminding of peace”

An electric lighthouse
Done away with company
Stands stiff
Only caribou for comfort

A mine and many shafts
Link the surface to a copper core
The terrain wormed into a sponge
Sunlight can enter

The fog lifts for a moment
The giants hide, hold your breath
While sodium zincate teases
copper into gold.
