Tomorrow
by Frances Koziar
Tomorrow there would have been the time
To go and pick the flowers
To walk and sing, do anything
And while away the hours
But it rained tomorrow
And I stayed at home
Drifting here, crazy near
Yearning just to roam
Tomorrow there would have been the chance
To ask him what he knew
To hold his hand, to understand
To love him through and through
But he died tomorrow,
Of what, I never asked
Dead and gone, no breath no brawn
I never heard his past
Tomorrow there would have been the hour
To say: wait, don’t go
To reach for him, step from the rim
Keep what I cherished so.
But tomorrow he was already gone
Though I called his name
I stood still, and waited till
A new tomorrow came
