My Mother's Hands

Went for a manicure and chose red
Stared at my hands with dread
They looked like my mother's hands
Suddenly pandemic hit
PPE supplies dipped
Volunteered to sew
Face masks for health care heros
The trade of my mother
Had created another
Generation of sewing hands
That fulfilled desperate demands
As if my soul knew
What I was supposed to do
Yes, I inherited my mother's hands
But, her talent too.

My name is Élia Viviani. I have a B.A in Theological Studies from
Concordia University. I enjoy crafting dolls and journaling. I work in
the retail industry at a non-profit organization.
