Sun-plea

by Sola Ajibogere
(Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria)

Lonesome torch of God's abode, withering
Touch upon the greenery
So pale, burning furnace of heaven
So high, ravening Earth, God's foot-rest.

Shield us a little while so that
The world takes respite from
Your burning tongue, so hot.
