Wax Poetry and Art’s Poetry World Cup 2026 has concluded and Canada is the poetry champion of the world.
The Poetry World Cup recognizes the most-read poems from around the world published in Wax Poetry and Art publications the previous year. The top poems from ten countries are assembled and readers have the opportunity to vote just by reading and sharing the poems. The number of visitors is tracked for a three-month reading period.
Wax Poetry and Art publisher, Kirk Ramdath, says the Poetry World Cup is a fun way to appreciate that poetry is a universal human activity. He says, “As a free online publication, it makes it easy to share these poems. By making a fun, shareable experience, it encourages poets to celebrate themselves and their work, and make new connections.”
The First Place poem is “Killing Time” by Sophia Zhu from Canada. Second Place went to “Who Am I?” by Carolyn Miller from South Africa. Third Place went to “The Leprechaun Jig” by Dean Monaghan from Ireland.
The Poetry World Cup is an annual event, and the next iteration is already in motion. Interested poets can visit the Wax Poetry and Art website for submission information and explore other opportunities as well.
Wax Poetry and Art is published by Florencia Bay Books, an independent Canadian publisher dedicated to increasing connections between poets and readers.
