Under 25 Poetry Magazine Contest #2 – First Place
by Alvi Hossain Dhruba
The fog of frosting pain made me clench my sweater But clothes cannot stop what voices of the void utter Void of mist felt safer, denser than that inside If through the hollow of haze I could fill my numb side I shot my sight far into the mist, wrestling with doubt If in the alike I might find something to calm my drought And life had to mock me one more time, helping me out Letting the sunray pierce my fog, painting my silhouette Life took away another thing I found my peace in And life keeps taking my fogs with a smug grin I am tired of the sunray waking me every time From times when sweet dreams sang delusional rhyme The numbing fog was long gone, leaving me number The sunshine was warm but not painful to remember I cried for the fog, not recalling the pain it gave Rather, the picture of shared pain I’ll take to my grave
