Crossing Bizzy Street

by Allan Lake

Cat approached
with silk paw caution
interpreting vibrations.
After tail-twitching hesitation,
a false start and retreat, cool
cat sat, licked a paw in case
some trucker was looking
and waited for vehicular
evaporation...
Beside the torrent of traffic
feline-domesticated paused
as noisy flood passed, then
having purrfect certainty
nonchalantly crossed
the street.
