Weekly Poems – About

weeklypoem
(noun) – a short poem written, edited, and submitted within seven days.

The most important thing is to create a body of work, and to share that work with the world. Let's do that and have fun, too.

A weeklypoem gets a new poem onto the page and ensures the poem is under consideration in under a week. Importantly, a weeklypoem flexes the core muscles of being a professional poet – writing, editing, and submitting (or self-publishing, if that's your route). Even if you are not selected, you do have a brand new poem. Therefore, you will have added to your body of work and added a poem to the universe, which is the most appropriate thing for a poet to do.

Weekly Poems is published in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada by Florencia Bay Books. Edited and designed by Kirk Ramdath. Nanaimo is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation of the Coast Salish Peoples.

Relaunch Date
Weekly Poems first published in 2013, and ran for a few years in different formats. That older work, unfortunately, was lost in a server migration, although much is still available at the Internet Archive. Weekly Poems was relaunched on June 22nd, 2025.

Deeper Into the weeklypoem Concept

From the Editor, Kirk Ramdath
Weekly Poems exists to inspire others to get their poetic work done. Life is hard and our real-world obligations can often push our poetry career to the side. Let's focus on writing new poems and getting them out to the world.

Ultimately, this is also about inspiring myself to get work done and put out into the world. So I've resolved to self-publish new work monthly at Kirk Ramdath Originals.
