Winner: Weekly Poems Contest #10
by Chris Mooney
An invitation to the faithful woods
Rapture on the now-lonely dawn shore
Soon full with childhood's noises
Brimming with life – whoops and hollers and splashes and love
Summer invites our souls to relief and calm
Ethereal, other-worldliness of the mountain air,
the squawking loons overhead,
the downed, enormous pine branches that dip far below the water's surface,
the cut of canoe oar through glassy lake,
the smiles and contentment, and
the refreshing reprieve gifted by nature's invitation
to August again in these hills, by this lake
Where our hearts are all year, though we are not, 'til now
