by Arshiya Zubaitha
I reached for the door
through the
falling floor.
If I had known before,
I would have never
risked it at all.
I should have known
I would be the one to let go,
you rip me into
pieces and put me back, as
a jigsaw that only fits in your
cruel hands.
You painted colours I cannot see,
played a song I could only
listen with you,
picked roses — prickled skin in the sun.
How am I supposed to live
when my beating heart
mispronounces your name?
Each sound I hear is your laughter
breathing along with the wind
until I crumble down—
how can you look at roses
and not think of me,
laughing beside you,
with bloody fingers?
