How the Sea Got Waves

by S. Vats

The happy child gazes to the sky—
Watches the flight,
Like a never-seen bird passing by.
Throws her hand inside the blue screen—
Ripples flow as her double stops to peep!
Air pierces in honour of her joyous scream—
Oh how bright her eyes gleam,
When she touches colour in anything!

The same child—
Now a woman,
Cascades by the grey shore.
In the shimmer of the same light,
She once used to adore.
Alas! Now she doesn't stop—
The stars in her eyes mimic stone,
Her trail is long gone.

The sea yearns for the child,
As the moon glances it all in the night.
So, he grants it a power—
To caress her feet under any hour.
Thus, the flowing being tickles her sole,
Takes her mind— to a buried memory well known.
And the entity rises again to a laughing sound—
In her eyes, the same old sparks are found.
