A Date in the Rainforest

by Joseph C. Ogbonna

Join me, Binta, in the still and quiet night.
Come with me to the Virgin rainforest.
Where the silvery moon sparkles in the
dreadful witching hour.
When the nocturnal cricket whistles with a
high-pitched seasonal love song.
On a placid night like this, the odious choral
rendition of the menacing and buzzing mosquito
can never be heard.
The ambience and serenity of the cool and
restful forest is reminiscent of a long-lost Eden.
The active creatures are subservient to the
stillness of the ivory moon's nocturnal and
very brief reign.
Just beside the cold springs, where we can
quench our thirst, we will enjoy a romantic night together,
akin to the love lives of our primitive progenitors.
