He said her laugh made time lose track
And she believed it
Let her heart bloom
As though she'd never heard of frost
The first silence didn't hurt
It felt like a page misplaced
Then came the delays, the missed glances
Her reflection began to stutter
She started counting exits
In places she'd once called home
But he left,
And she didn't chase
Now she smiles with her mouth closed
Keeps her warmth hidden beneath bone
She doesn't flinch
She has learned to stay whole
She is steel
With a mercury sheen
Not broken
Just untouchable
