If we could turn back time
to the days of carefree abandon (or abandonment?)
of toffee apples, swings, and
squeezing mud between our toes.
Whispered sweet nothings,
our first kiss and love notes written
in the sand.
Singing at the top of our voices,
so out of tune.
Eating mulberries till our mouth,
face, and fingers were stained red.
Those were happy, carefree days we thought
would never end.
