Jottings in an Old Poetry Book

by Kev Warburton

Falling open at a favoured place, these pages
Have already been explored, a path's been
Beaten between the collected works.
Someone's left perceptive notes as
Heaped tributes around each poetic totem:
Like honest friends they highlight the positive,
Underline the truth, and query dubious judgments.

Though scattered through the margins, these
Offerings are scarcely trivial – they're strangely tangible.
Whispers of another soul, opinionated but unknown,
Laconic echoes of a lively mind.

In quiet communion we float together over a printed landscape.
This weathered text and scribbled hand can
Nurture younger spirits and show the immortality of thought.
I feel grateful for flights of fancy, as this shared reading
Folds to a slow, considered close.
