Lake Wisdom

by Nicole Jessome

I can hear the churning waters
hit the shore
leaving behind the debris
littering the white sand carpet

Some days, the rough seas
can dredge up what has lingered below
making the walk on the shore
difficult to navigate.

Some days, the stagnant lake
sits with its crystals glimmering in the sun
allowing us to see the pebbled floor
without obstruction.

The lake's wisdom is nature-born
and shows its authentic self
unabashedly
consequence free,
making me long to be more like it.
