This Old Body

by Gabriole Sinclair

This old body
is
still
quite useful
It saddens me
that
she is so afraid.
I want to celebrate with her
to dance in the morning
but she is turned inward
counting sorrows
and
tracing the fine blue lines
on her naked thighs.
I can't dance now, she says
Just look at these legs.
If not now, when? I ask.
I can't dance without you.
Come dance with me
my darling.
Step high into the shining day.
