Soul Free

by Steven Bonato

Into my heart and mind, love and light flood fast.
Illuminating the shadows cast.
By a life lived of trauma and fear.
I was once blind, but now I am the seer.

I see pain wherever I go.
I feel compassion for all people I know.
Who suffer each day in silent misery.
Who hold in screams for all to hear, for all to see.

That we exist in unnatural days.
Constantly pushing each other away.
Just know that we are here as one,
toiling together under the same hot sun.

In a world of our own creation.
Devoid of joy and elation.
The time is now for us to recognize.
To cast off our shackles of ignorance,
to become wise.

Love and kindness will bring us together.
Provide us with shelter from hostile weather.
We need only to let down our barriers to see.
We need only open our souls to be free.
