Wandering Shuffle

by Jimmy Coffey

Treasuring the mad people
Who rage indiscriminately
Mythical destinies of minds
Behavior defies description
Madness to be understood
Offensive in the misunderstood
Loss of mind in carefree
North to south
East to west
Perched on rusted escapes
Drifting through sunlit alley
Steppin' out to shaded skies
Darkening streets bright
Illuminated in possibility
Classical harmonics cry
Heartbeat in stride
Minstrels' street corner staged
Panhandled in art
Brother can you
Spare a dime on a dime

Passing through obliquely
Sidewalks cracks at sunset
Each line carrying a tale
Not lost on the weary
Lullabies past futures
Hushed tones present
Fractured in love
As a stolen childhood
Heartbreaks of a life
Eased in the soul of dreams
Restful in thought
Wishful in moments
Held in hands connected
Glistens in youthful eyes
Invisibility of an age
Passing in oblivion
Invincibility of a heart
Found through any corner
Imaginations on our side
Within time's mission
Through to the wonder
Not all are lost
