Another siren shrills
in the troubled city
announcing emergency,
a crime in progress,
an ambulance speeding
the ill to the hospital,
firetrucks rushing
to save the endangered,
the frightening sound
occurring more often
as poverty spreads,
resources diminish,
while the demand grows
for more services,
needs become more urgent,
for the poverty class,
while the rich grow richer.
