Chimney

by Lynn White

Be careful of the chimney.
I was warned
when contemplating
the ridge walk.

It was a steep walk up
but I saw no chimney
and had no problem with the ridge.
The mist was such I saw nothing at all.

On a clear day,
I walked it again.
It was easier in the mist.
The huge chimney was precipitous.
Sometimes it's better not to see a monster.
