Winner: Weekly Poems Contest #8
by Michelle Brown
The curlew croons its
mournful cry in the wee
hours of the morning.
Magpies sing their song of
love, aching for the loved one –
Welcoming the hint of
Spring's kiss.
Pounding feet, and
jittery blue dog, shadows leaping,
crunching our way through bushland path.
Westerly wind whooshes through,
jessamine scent in its wake –
Breeze whispers
past perspiring face.
The rhythm of the run
chases away soul shadows
as light dapples through trees.
