Winner: Weekly Poems Contest #12

Coming Home

by Betsy Kahn

It just happened again.

Getting off the airplane
after a long, beautiful trip,
my mind's eye conjured
that comforting moment of homecoming

walking through the door
looking forward to my own bed

but I had rolled the suitcase into the wrong house.

The burned down one,
a phantom limb.
