After the Light Left

by Susan Sim

Once, the moon glowed with sunlight.
Its walls whispered warmth and promise.
Now shadows linger like ghosts,
And the air is chilled with silence.
A stained dress hangs in the corner,
Its fabric holding secrets no wash can cleanse.
A wilted flower rests on the windowsill,
Its petals a memory of innocence lost.
The room – now distant, fragmented –
Holds only echoes of what once was.
Numbness blankets the heart.
Anger flickers in the corner of the soul,
And fear lingers in silence,
Afraid not to be believed.
Nature, the mirror, reflects the inner storm –
A tree stripped bare by relentless winds.
In the silence, gaps speak volumes –
The spaces between words
A testament to the pain.
Yet, even in this cold, empty room,
A flicker of light dares to return.
