by Dhruvika Jain
Suddenly, I pass by A window of my home, I open it with the courage That I still own. Inside, I saw a woman crying, Her tears drenching her soul, Asking for emancipation— Just to open her door. Her vermilion was red with blood, Flowing from a wound. Her arms still carried the weight of her marriage band, Her fragile hands torn apart. She could not stop the bleeding— For it was the destiny she was forced to own. Then I opened another window, And saw a child opening her eyes, Dreaming of a better home, Reaching for the moon. But judged at every step she takes, Still, she longs to be admired. I opened the last window, One covered in dust. There, a man was hustling To feed his family, Giving everything he had— Just to fulfill the dreams of his children. Suddenly, a stroke of wind came, Closing all the windows. A tear rolled down my eyes, But even in silence, A forgotten window still shines.
