Early morning lesson
ready as a child may be
restless to be going
How fast the cracks rise
before my eyes
absorbed, they splinter
and become
part of the body of nerves
that I am –
tiny ladders to hang on
How fast my knees rise
to my chin
stumbling spring
like tent poles
over and over again
I am a landing plane
Run for the joy of life
now only
toward the watery pink sun
and fishing boats
from foreign shores
