Shakespeare's Pen: The Americas Contest – First Place
by Anna Nike Leskowsky
Why are we here? you ask me every day.
My eyes are closed – my heart is pounding fast.
You know as well as I why we can't say
The truth about the future and the past.
There is a way to change our sadness now
By touching other people's aching hearts.
We all are here to answer questions – how
To learn and open doors to real arts.
The art of kindness first comes to my mind,
The art of sharing and the art of peace,
The art of oneness follows them behind
With understanding of each other's needs.
One day, when time forgets its way with us
Our souls will find again the way to trust.
