Wax Poetry and Art invites all artists in all mediums to participate in Visual Art Contest #3. Submissions are accepted from everywhere on Earth.
Published, edited, and designed by Kirk Ramdath in Sooke, British Columbia, Canada, on the traditional and unceded territory of the T'Sou-ke and Scia'new First Nations.
Visual Art Contest #3 Submission Guidelines
Please prepare your submission carefully.
You must agree with the terms on this page to submit to this Contest. Your submission will be considered proof of your agreement and as such, no additional contract will be required for publication to proceed.
Submissions are open to everyone. All mediums and genres of visual art are welcome.
Contest Deadline
Submissions close on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024.
Essential details:
– Free to enter.
– Submit three images representing three different works of art.
– First Place will be chosen.
– The winner receives publication and potential future royalties.
– Simultaneous submissions are not allowed.
– You will be informed of the result by July 15th, 2024.
Submissions must include the following four components.
1) Agreement Statement
You must include the following statement with your submission:
"I agree with the submission guidelines for Wax Poetry and Art Visual Art Contest #3."
2) Three Images
Submit three original, unpublished images in JPEG format, of three different works of art.
You can submit smartphone pics.
The images can thematically related, or not.
For each work of art shown, provide the title, medium used, and the dimensions of the original artwork.
AI generated images are not permitted.
The remaining (text) portions of your submission must be included in the body of the email.
Do not include any text in attachments.
3) Biography
Include a short biography, no longer than 75 words.
If you have an artist website, Instagram, etc., you can include links at the end of your biography.
Long biographies will be truncated at the Editor's discretion.
You may also include an additional Artist Statement of 75 words if you wish to add context regarding the images in your submission.

Selection of Winners
Images will be assessed by the Editor on the basis of aesthetic value, clarity of vision, and composition.
One winning set of three images will be selected: First Place.
One of the winning photos may be selected as the cover image for the magazine.
Publication Date
Winners will receive publication in Wax Poetry and Art Magazine on September 15th, 2024.
Terms and Conditions
Copyright of the work remains with the original artist.
Upon acceptance, the artist grants the publisher, Kirk Ramdath, the right to the first publication of the work, as well as the right to republish the work in Wax Poetry and Art anthologies and collections, online and in print, without additional permission required.
If the work is ever collected into a book or made available for sale in any other print format, the artist will receive a minimum 20% royalty. If the work is included in a collection with other artists (as is most likely), the 20% royalty is shared equally among all artists, based on the number of works contributed. If the work is ever made available for sale in a digital format, a 50% royalty will be given, and shared as necessary. Royalties are paid out annually in January if a minimum of $10 CAD is accrued.
There is no initial payment.
The artist also grants the publisher the right to publish part of the work on third party platforms such as Facebook and other social media, specifically for the purpose of sharing the work with more people, and considering the evolving and experimental nature of the Internet. This does not obligate the publisher to make social media posts.
The editor reserves the right to make whatever changes are deemed necessary, at any time, to ensure that publication occurs. Publication is perpetual. However, the artist may appeal any change within 30 days of publication. If artist and publisher cannot reach an agreement, the work will be unpublished. This preserves the artistic integrity of both the work and the publication.

Only images may be attached. The rest of the submission must be copied and pasted into the body of a single email and sent to the email address shown below.
Do not include any part of your submission in an attachment.

Use the following as the subject header of your submission email:
"Visual Art Contest #3".

Kirk Ramdath is the publisher, editor, and designer of Wax Poetry and Art, Eleventh Transmission, and other publications.
He has been an independent poet and publisher since 2005.
Kirk lives in Sooke, British Columbia, Canada.
