Zazu was a curious child. At the tender age of four, he had developed a desire to know how the world works. He was now six, and his unbridled curiosity terrified those around him, especially his father.
Walking with his father to church, one Sunday morning, he noticed the sky adorned by a rainbow. He asked, “Daddy, why is there a rainbow in the sky?” “It is because it just rained”, his father retorted.
“Daddy, why does the rainbow appear after it rains?” he questioned further.
“It serves as the sign of a vow God made never to destroy humankind ever again”, his father responded.
“Why did God want to destroy humankind?” Zazu requested.
“It was because of corruption and sin,” his father replied.
“Daddy, what is corruption and sin?” Zazu enquired.
The man at this point was hard pressed; he nevertheless responded saying, “corruption is mixing good and bad together”, “meanwhile, sin is doing what God says one should not do”
The boy was unrelenting and pressed further, saying, “Why would God say we should do some things and not do some other things? Where did God get such a right?”
At this moment, it was as if steam was let out from his father’s ears. He stiffened, his face tightening into a grimace as he snapped, “Zazu, focus on your walking. We are getting late”.
