Curse

by Jorge Etcheverry

...And I will utter a curse upon you
and like volcanic ashes it will fall upon your head
burning it with the fire of wisdom
and making it warm
through the winter winds

And all the demons will take possession of your soul
and carry it with them
towards their abode
where life is eternal
where disease and pain fall from the body
like autumn leaves
from a tree

And I will utter a curse upon your progeny
May all kinds of calamities descend on their heads:
the absence of need
long life
pleasure and calm

And you will be condemned
to wander the city
and under each of your footsteps
the grass will flourish

And you will be attacked
by herds of beasts
that will lick your hands.
