Socially Engaged Poetry Contest #8 – First Place
by Goodwell Kaipa
This is to all who left home
People who believed in a world
A world better than the reality that was before their eyes
This is to all who thrive in an unfamiliar place
And though sometimes it's hard
They conquer days now metamorphosing into years
This is to all dreamers
Who hit the road in search of greener pasture
This is to all who left home
When that which they called home
No longer was a place of love
Home is anywhere
So long you as sleep in peace in that ramshackle
This is to all who said enough is enough
And crammed themselves in lorries
Just to leave home and all its glories
Sauntering into unfamiliar towns
This is to all who are blending with strangers
Acculturating themselves to their normal oddities
The world is a village
And anywhere where there are people
There is also a haven meant for you
