Weekly Poems #13 –

Winner: Weekly Poems Contest #13

When the Time is Right

by Anna Nike Leskowsky

Touched by late summer glory,
I connect the pieces –
a cottage built by my father
at Lake Studzieniczne in Poland
and my young dreams,
now imprinted on the blue canvas of Lake of Bays.
The images are multiplying
like ducklings that grew too fast
this summer in Dwight.
I can't distinguish them
from their parents anymore.
Is it my mother there,
painting watercolours with her skillful hands?
Our fingers meet in careful strokes
of autumn shadows,
marking the short days ahead of us.
The two distant visions
blossom with silver, gold,
and the readiness to fall asleep
when the time is right.
