Young Poets World is a network of international poetry magazines for poets 18 years of age and under, and the home of the Young Poets World Cup. Young Poets World is designed to give publishing opportunities to young poets at different stages of life experience, from everywhere on Earth.
Young Poets World is part of waxpoetryart.com – the website for people who love poetry, art, photography, fiction, and plays.
New issues are published on January 15th, May 15th, and September 15th of every year.
Young Poets World is published in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada by Florencia Bay Books. Edited and designed by Kirk Ramdath. Nanaimo is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation of the Coast Salish Peoples.
The Creation of Young Poets World
Young Poets World came about because I have been receiving submissions from young poets.
Many are excellent, and have won contests against much more experienced poets.
At the same time, I observed that some submissions were not getting fair consideration,
because the content did not fit with other content that was written by adults.
This is why Young Poets World publications are age-based, instead of by geography as with other publications on waxpoetryart.com.
This ensures that young poets have a dedicated space where their poems can be published.
This allows their work to be considered alongside their peers.
– Young Poets 12 and Under
– Young Poets 13 to 15
– Young Poets 16 to 18
– Young Poets Magazine – Open to everyone 18 and under.
Explicit and Mature Content Policy
Young Poets World will not publish explicit or mature content.
However, serious topics may still be covered.
Therefore, parental discretion is advised.
Note from Editor Kirk Ramdath
Please note that publications outside of Young Poets World on waxpoetryart.com, as well as my own published writing,
do not cater to a young audience, and are intended for adult readers, even if mostly appropriate for a general audience.
Therefore, please ensure that your young person has your permission if they read or submit to other waxpoetryart.com publications
outside of Young Poets World, or if they read my published work.
Kirk Ramdath's Background in Publishing Young People
I launched Axil Poetry and Art in 2014, which caters to artists under 25 years of age.
Through publishing experience over time, I have realized that "Under 25" is not a monolithic group, and could still exclude younger voices.
This led to the development of Young Poets World.
