Surrounded by white day and dark night My fingers wrap around a timeless clock Ticking away the ambiguous moments Where there seems to be no time For a brown girl like me. But then the clock's hands started to move And I realized My fingers are the roots that connect white flowers To black soil in the spring. The bronze in my veins pulses In rhythm with the heartbeat of the brown earth in the fall. Then the clock stops once more And so I wait To wake again to the sunrise that comes before morning And become the golden skin drenched in the setting sun's glow.
