Atlantic Canada Poetry Contest #1 – First Place

Grounded

by Kathleen Lutz

It used to make me smile to see
The little starlings use their feet,
Hopping furiously along the street
As if their wings had never been.
But then I realized – there go I,
Forgetting I have strength to fly,
Frantically trying to keep the stride
Of a world trapped beneath the sky –

And it doesn't seem so funny.
