CARIFESTA X

by Linette Rabsatt

Victor called me
Generation Lion
roaring and soaring
to make change!
This CARIFESTA
a new home
for my expression.
As I meet my neighbors and friends,
I ask What is your name? and
What is your creative input?
Because at CARIFESTA,
our art is our part and
our intelligence is just a taste
of our excellence and talents.
In this full gathering,
feel the rhythm
as the Mocko Jumbies
ramp, stamp, and
Jump!
Experience the visual references
of colorful expression
and soft sculptures –
a semblance of our culture –
as a scratch band makes me
dance and prance!
Yet, I hold my stance and
write and read a poem
for CARIFESTA!
My inspiration is
flowing and growing,
and with the people
I am knowing,
it's showing
that the next one
will be even hotter
even 'on like popcorn'
with performances 'til dawn
I love CARIFESTA!
Yo amo a CARIFESTA!
Te T'ainge Carifete!
One Caribbean
Our Purpose
Our Culture
Our Life!
My Fix

Written in 2008 for the Carifesta Event
