The Sea

by Dean Monaghan

Verse 1
Shallow and deep waves still go splish splash at your feet,
Forward and back,
Left and right,
Back and forward,
A hypnotic glance at the merry dance,
Splish and smash against the rocks,
Don't look back at all,
Waves follow one by one,
And quicken along playing tiptoe with the shores,
Who is keeping the scores?

Verse 2
The howling wind between your ears,
The drumbeat of many fears,
The crash of the waves bouncing off the pebble stones,
The echoes of the wind,
White horses galloped come to first touch your toes,
The Mourne Mountains in the hazy gaze,
Like a mirage out on Sahara dunes,
On heights, I glide over the Heavenly skies,
As the ocean depths never lie,

Verse 3
The seagulls fly against the howling gales,
To hover and glide over the great divide,
500 years thereafter,
What lies underneath the deep?
Orders whisper and echo on the cliffs of tears,
As couples separated by hundreds of miles on the shoreline of time,
Seeing the end in each other eyes,

Verse 4
Shallow and deep waves still go splish splash at your feet,
Forward and back,
Left and right,
Back and forward,
A hypnotic glance at the merry dance,
Splish and smash against the rocks,
Don't look back at all,
Waves follow one by one,
And quicken along playing tiptoe with the shores,
Who is keeping the scores?
