Poetry Contest #22 – Second Place
by Charline Fernandez
I
As you witness my tears pouring down from the Irish Sea,
Wait until their salty taste turns into sweet delicacies.
Between the forces of grief and creation,
I find myself back in a mythic land from another season,
Where my chest used to sink deep into Earth's magma –
My rotting flesh moving through a field
Filled with love notes of goldcrests.
But walking today under the same centenary trees,
I hear those songs now rising from newborn nests.
When I finally reach Glendalough Lake,
I ask (beg) Gaia to reabsorb me into her core
As her long-lost Daughter returned to the shore.
II
Return to the Sidhe, dear Child of mine,
Let the fae of the forest guide you home.
You are never truly lost –
The elements protect you – no matter the cost.
When you get stuck in a maze on your quest,
Look to the sky and let the stars give you rest.
Follow their light to the river of sorrows,
So your grief and anger can be borrowed.
As the currents draw you closer to the brink
And the height only grows more daunting,
Remind yourself you're in the midst of a rebirth.
Take a deep
breath.
You will one day rise from the depths of hell,
Victorious over the land where angels dwell.
