New Zealand Poetry Contest #2 – First Place
by Christlin Edwin
Tender her soul, gusting like a wind, Like a butterfly that fluttered amidst the chaos, Painted the massive sky with her authentic palette, With astonishing colours of the rainbow. With a wicked laugh arose the scorching sun That couldn't melt her powerful aura. Through the grey skies passed the gloomy clouds, Blasted the thunderstorm, brought the rain, Healing the unhealed parts of the soul. Giggling in the mild shower, Like a freshly bloomed lily, The awful anxiety rush fled. Wilder her soul now, in a new land. She had a longer gaze over the moon, An unrequited love story that ended. Saw a flock of seagulls along the Baltic Sea, Shunting between continents. Like a shadow of twilight, Submerging the sun amidst the tulip field. Like a roaring, vicious tide, Settling back in the ocean. Like a misty fog along the valley, Touching the tip of the pine trees. Things always settle for good, At the right time, in the right place. The solitary, risky voyage had to go on. She flew across the countries, Yet remembered the roller-coaster ride, Questioning the how, when, and where deeper. With angelic guidance, like a twinkling star beside, Reminding her of the wings she had never used. A blistering flame awakened the bruised, hidden parts of the soul, Regaining and restoring the power of intuition in her spirit, Constantly guiding like a shooting star. Stumbled twice and fallen thrice, yet resilient, Becoming her own muse, sparkling in the dark. Her inquisitive soul, dangerous yet fragile on the other side, Built her walls high, fading the self-doubts. An enchanting face mirroring the eternal aura, Taller she grew in confidence, smashing patriarchy. Like a gleaming surface of the ocean, She cherished her re-birthed soul, Trashing the burden of shame and agony. An instinct deeply rooted in the new land of prosperity. The archer in her aiming high, shooting for stars, With stars shimmering in the vision of her eyes. A journey to remember for a lifetime, Wiping away the sadness with pure glee. Gliding through the mystery of tomorrow, Thrusting through the hardships to rise in triumph. Like a gentle breeze carrying the weight of a feather, Echoed the inner voice, This too shall pass. Yes, This too shall pass.
