Nighttime is the best
The quiet slumber of the earth
The night I love
The night I trust
In the dark, I thrive
Free of light, its visibility
Even for a few hours
I love the night
The white owl that cuts the sky
Crickets and loud insects filling the air
With an unrivaled harmony
To lull this wide world
Even just for a few hours
A few hours
Is usually all I have
Before those first streaks of yellow
Collapse the stars and flood the moon
The earth becomes shallow
I become deep in sorrow
Regret, and mighty unrest
My head is banging
The roads are loud
I hate every little sound
That comes around
Sleep flutters and fleets
And fades into nothingness
As the light
Drowns the night
The night I love
Perchance the next time it comes
It may love me enough
To stay more than a few hours.
