Vancouver Poetry Magazine Contest #2 – First Place

Snapped

by Stephen G. Lloyd

It's the small things
That aggrieve me

That hastily spoken
Word in jest.

All the mileage
Broken down.

A thought that clatters
To the floor

In clumsiness
Despicable.

Broken shards
That gleam.

Wary moves
My cadence

Here in the rearguard
Watching my flank.

Doubting your snout
Of frown.

Deception
And decay.

Prophet
Of my hand.

Every hour
Sounds

Awaiting guile,

Plodding through
Tricks of mirth.
