The Last Scrape

by Matthew Jung

The last scrape,
all a blended blur
of foggy memories
of the fresh, stinging
crisp, crushing cuts
vanishing into a void

Though the same body,
I changed. My childhood
now sealed shut,
in a box of endless echoes
where no originals remain

Regret

It all ended too soon
But looking back,
how could I have known
that it would all slowly slip
like a fading light?

Seeing swings that still sway,
hearing chatter, screams, and cries
not of terror, but of joy
knowing that I too, was once
part of them

A door now shut
that can never be opened
But a new one opened
that will eventually shut

Forever
